80th anniversary of Professor Urazalin M. M. Department of Microbiology

Happy Anniversary, Dear Marat Mautkanovich!

On October 15, Honored Professor of the Department of Microbiology of NJSC Semey Medical University Urazalin Marat Mautkanovich celebrated his 80th birthday. In honor of this significant event, the hero of the day was congratulated by university leadership, trade union committee of the university,  students  and staff of the Department of Microbiology named after Professor M. M. Urazalin

Urazalin Marat Mautkanovich was born on October 15, 1942 in the village of Kokpekty. He graduated from a good school in the village of Aksuat in 1959, entered the Medical Institute of the city of Semipalatinsk. From 1959 to 1965 he was a media student. Immediately after graduation, he was offered a job in the Department of Microbiology, as a capable student who showed a propensity for research even in his student years. Soon he entered graduate school at the Kharkov Medical Institute. After graduating from graduate school, he defended his thesis in immunology and returned to his native institute, where he became an assistant professor of microbiology.

In addition to professional activities, he devoted a lot of time to social work. In the 1990s, Marat Mautkanovich was Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs. These were difficult years of the formation of our state, the years of introducing various innovations in the education and healthcare system, which required considerable efforts for their implementation. In 2002 he received the title of Professor of the Department of Microbiology.

When the anti-nuclear movement began in Kazakhstan, Marat Mautkanovich was one of its first activists and in 1989-2000 he was the chairman of the Nevada-Semipalatinsk anti-nuclear movement. He has repeatedly visited Japan, participating in various forums and conferences related to the anti-nuclear movement. Thanks to the work of Marat Mautkanovich, the university developed international cooperation and established strong ties with many foreign universities and organizations, partnerships with which continue to this day.

I would also like to note the many incredible qualities of the hero of the day, including high professionalism, hard work, devotion to work, kindness, responsiveness and a big heart, thanks to which Marat Mautkanovich earned well-deserved respect and honor in a large team of the university and far beyond.

Speaking of achievements, Marat Mautkanovich was awarded the Algys Khat diploma from the leadership of the university for his brilliant work and high professionalism.
