On November 3, 2022, on the basis of Semey Medical University, NCJSC, the Department of Internal Disease and Rheumatology, a medical round table was held on the topic: “Algorithms for diagnosing and routing patients with IBD. Practical issues of the use of biological therapy in inflammatory bowel diseases”.

The educational course was organized to raise the awareness of medical specialists in Semey city in the field of IBD – gastroenterologists, infectious disease specialists, therapists, surgeons in the field of early diagnosis of IBD.

During the event, experts from the region exchanged experience in the field of early diagnosis and treatment of severe autoimmune diseases, which included Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. These are chronic diseases that are characterized by inflammation of the digestive tract and lead to early disability in young and middle age. Timely diagnosis and early therapy help control the development of diseases, delay or avoid their complications.

Ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease is a socially significant problem, partly due to the early onset of the disease, high aggression of the inflammatory process in childhood and adolescence. Within the framework of the round table, issues of patient continuity between the surgical and therapeutic services, as well as interdisciplinary interaction with specialists from the diagnostic service, were considered.

The event highlighted the latest international recommendations for the management of patients with IBD, which is of great relevance in this region. During the event, regional experts exchanged views that today in Semey there is a need to introduce modern standards for the diagnosis and treatment of UC and CD into the daily clinical practice of gastroenterologists and therapists by solving the following tasks:

• to determine the target portrait of patients with CD and UC, for whom the use of modern methods of genetic engineering therapy will significantly improve the current results of treatment;
• to determine the algorithm for early diagnosis, the problems of late detection of the disease in the region;
• to introduce updated protocols for the diagnosis and treatment of IBD (ECCO, AGA, NICE, etc.) into the daily practice of gastroenterologists;
• to form a modern path of a patient with IBD in this region.
