Rheumatology Service – problems and prospects in the region

19 May 2023  Acting Professor of Department of Internal Diseases and Rheumatology, c.m.s. Goremykina M.V., a meeting was held with residents of the 1st and 2nd years of study in the specialty “Adult Rheumatology, children’s” to familiarize themselves with the new standard for the organization of rheumatology care in the Republic of Kazakhstan dated 28.03.2023, which was developed in accordance with subparagraph 32 of Article 7 The Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan “On the people and the healthcare system”.

The analysis of statistical data on the prevalence of rheumatologically diseases in general and for each individual nosology among the population of the Republic of Kazakhstan had carried out. According to official statistics, more than 860 thousand people with rheumatic diseases has registered in Kazakhstan today. From year to year, there is a progressive increase in the number of patients with diseases of the musculoskeletal system and connective tissue; these figures have increased significantly after the coronavirus pandemic. At the same time, specialized rheumatology departments are available only in Almaty, Shymkent, Karaganda, North Kazakhstan and East Kazakhstan regions, while in other regions rheumatological beds are located in the structure of general therapeutic departments of hospitals.  There is also a shortage of rheumatologists in all regions of Kazakhstan.

For the first time, the new standard regulates the structure and procedure of activity of second-level rheumatology centers at multidisciplinary hospitals, which should be opened in each region. In a separate novel, the organization, the order of work of the cabinet of genetic engineering therapy and the work of a multidisciplinary group have highlighted. In addition, for the first time approved standards of medical load in the provision of rheumatological care in outpatient and inpatient settings.

According to the new standard in the Abai region, it is planned to form a Regional Rheumatology Center based on the UH SMU, NCJSC (Semey Medical University, Non-Commercial Joint-Stock Company), increase rheumatology beds, as well as the allocation of new workers.

Thus, residents were acquainted with the new standard for the organization of rheumatological care in the Republic of Kazakhstan dated 28.03.2023. The main problems of the rheumatology service in the Abai region were analyzed, and further prospects for improving the quality of rheumatology service in our region were outlined.
