An annual tradition of our department has become an excursion trip with students of curatorial groups to the Zhidebai tract, where the Kunanbayev family house-museum is located. Last weekend, the teaching staff of the Department of Physiological Disciplines Kusainova K.T., Amangeldina K.Zh., Shakabaeva A.A., Musakhanova A.E., Kanatbekova A.K. together with the head of the department Rakhyzhanova S.O. and with the curatorial groups of the department: 2213, 2104, 2103, 2322, 2102, 2107, 1214, 3520 specialties “General medicine” and “Pediatrics” – visited the memorial complex erected in 1995 for the 150th anniversary of the great Abai.
The memorial towers are located on a platform, three tiers of which symbolize the past, present, and future. On one side of the Kunanbayev estate stands the mausoleum of Abai with a height of 32 meters and 12 meters in diameter, on the other side is the mausoleum of Shakarim, nephew and disciple of Abai, the same majestic, but 1 meter less in height and diameter. His brother Ospan was buried with Abai, and nearby there are the graves of the women closest to Abai – Ulzhan’s mother and Zere’s grandmother.
In eight rooms and three halls of the Kunanbayev family museum, there are clothing materials donated by Abai’s relatives and friends. Among them are books in Arabic, Persian, Turkish, Russian, photo documents of those years, three–string dombra Abaya, household items. Exhibits of great ethnographic interest introduced students to the Abai era.
On the way to Zhidebai, the students visited the M. Auezov house-museum in Borli, the monument to the lovers Enlik and Kebek, the pass of the militant Kushikbai Batyr, the memorial sign “Center of Eurasia”.
