Malaria Prevention Workshop

At the Department of Infectious Diseases, Dermatovenereology and Immunology of SMU, NCJCS, active sanitary and educational work on the prevention of infectious diseases in medical institutions of the city of Semey continues. GP interns studying at the department are actively involved in this section of preventive work. In 2023, on September 8, a seminar on malaria prevention was held in the conference hall of the consultative and diagnostic clinic No. 3 in Semey. The participants of the seminar were doctors and nursing staff of the hospital No. 3 in Semey.

GP interns of group 624 reported epidemiological data on the incidence of malaria in the world and in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The clinical issues, diagnosis and prevention of malaria were covered in detail. The speakers cited WHO data that malaria is a life-threatening disease found mainly in tropical countries and that this disease can be prevented and cured. However, without timely diagnosis and effective treatment, a case of uncomplicated malaria can develop into a severe form of the disease, which without treatment is often fatal.

The audience focused on malaria prevention – vector control, which is the main approach to preventing malaria and reducing its transmission, and current chemoprophylactic treatments for malaria recommended by WHO for people living in endemic areas.
