Drugs based on immunoglobulins (or antibodies) have been known for a long time. At the beginning of the XX century, a drug was invented for the treatment of diphtheria based on the blood serum of those who had been ill. Nowadays, immunoglobulins are used to fight various infectious diseases – tick-borne encephalitis, cytomegalovirus, staphylococcus, as well as as therapy for patients with allergies and primary immunodeficiency. Immunoglobulins also help in the fight against autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus, Guillain–Barre syndrome or Kawasaki syndrome. Today, the pharmaceutical industry can offer a variety of immunopreparations. But doctors are faced with such questions as: what to prescribe, when, how to evaluate the effectiveness, etc.
