The role of academic mentors, represented by Professor Zhumadilova Z.K. and Associate Professor Kaskabaeva A.Sh., on the basis of the departments of internal medicine and rheumatology “Medical University of Semey” NCJSC to monitor and control the training of residents in the speciality ” Gastroenterology for adults, children”, which during the academic year work in hospitals in Pavlodar, Ust-Kamenogorsk and Semey cities is very important. They during the academic year in these hospitals together with clinical mentors, who are experienced and qualified doctors of practical health care conduct mentoring of residents. On speciality ” Gastroenterology for adults, children” at present time 4 residents of the 1st year of training and 4 residents of the 2nd year of training are trained, from them 2 residents are trained on the basis of department of Gastroenterology of University Hospital of “Medical University Semey” NCJSC, 4 residents – on the basis of University branch in Ust-Kamenogorsk city and 2 residents – on the basis of University branch in Pavlodar city.
Academic mentors discuss current clinical guidelines, classifications, diagnostic and treatment methods during offline and online sessions with residents. They will help to introduce into daily practice new diagnostic and treatment methods that have been used in scientific research, as well as participation in such research. They enhance clinical reasoning and drive for self-improvement and continuing professional learning in residents. Residents are trained in medical skills of diagnostics examination and treatment of patients, communication with patients and colleagues in compliance with the principles of medical ethics and deontology, application of theoretical knowledge in practice and active participation in clinical discussions and consiliums, in discussion and implementation of new modern methods of diagnostics and treatment. All this will allow to achieve a good level of training of residents in the speciality ” Gastroenterology for adults, children ” as competent, conscientious specialists regardless of the place of residency.
