“Journal Club” at the Department of Internal Medicine and Rheumatology

At the Department of Internal Medicine and Rheumatology, regular meetings of the “Journal Club” were held (09.01, 16.01., 18.01.2024) with first-year residents of  the “Gastroenterology adults, children” in the discipline “Hepatology”. Academic mentor, head of the department Kaskabayeva A.Sh. puzzled in advance with the topic, guided in the selection of articles, recommended an electronic resource, and the depth of the analysis period. (Uptodate, Cochrane Library, pubmed, medline) The work was assessed based on the presentations presented, which reflect modern analytical results from the perspective of evidence-based medicine, with obligatory reference to the source of information on the following topics: “Intestinal microbiome and liver diseases” responsible Zhanayeva A. and Dusipbekova A , “Methods for correcting intestinal dysbiosis”, responsible Eskendirova Z. and “Stem cells in the treatment of liver cirrhosis”, responsible Togaybekova M. During the discussion of the materials of the “Journal Club”, teamwork is emphasized, where each resident acts both as a speaker and as an analyst, expert and critic. Feedback from the results of the discussion in the Journal Club format showed that training using this methodology demonstrates the ability to work with electronic resources, to collect and analyze scientific material, and develops critical thinking.
