“The role of a clinical mentor in residency training in the specialty “Adult and Pediatric Emergency

The role of the mentor is to teach practical activities to residents who can apply them for effective independent medical practice in the healthcare field. Clinical thinking, new knowledge and skills – these competencies are developed during the training of residents at clinical bases at the practical level. These are the competencies that a clinical mentor helps you master. Currently, at the Department of Emergency Medicine in the 2023-2024 academic year, 14 residents are studying in residency in the specialty “Emergency Medicine for Adults and Children”, of which 1 year of study: in Semey – 2, in Pavlodar – 1; 3 residents of the 2nd year of study, all in Pavlodar, and 8 residents in the 3rd year of study, of which 3 in Semey, 2 in Ust-Kamenogorsk and 3 in Pavlodar. Residents work on the basis of Semey: Emergency Hospital, University Hospital , Children’s Infectious Diseases Hospital, in Ust-Kamenogorsk: Regional Rehabilitation Center, KGP at the RV “TsMiR”.

Clinical mentors provide personal example for the development of positive qualities of residents and promote the development of professional outlook. They also pass on their knowledge and experience to residents, help and advise the resident in becoming familiar with his job responsibilities, the main directions of his activities, ensure the study of regulatory legal acts, train rehabilitation residents in practical skills, identify and jointly eliminate errors in clinical work. Clinical preceptors enable residents to develop a responsible attitude in the performance of their professional duties. A feature of our specialty is the opportunity to rotate across clinical sites, exchange of information, team interaction, and teamwork. Given the characteristics of childhood in motor development, the role of the clinical mentor in the resident’s practice is integral. For a high-quality education of a young specialist, devices with modern equipment are demonstrated and taught to work on them. Resident doctors not only conduct practical work, but also conduct and participate in seminars and attend online zoom conferences.

Thus, young specialists have the opportunity to get the best results by making an accurate diagnosis, prescribing treatment, and receiving feedback with the help of an experienced mentor.
