On September 30, 2024, the university hosted a training lecture for 2nd year students of the educational program “Medicine” on the topic “Suicide is a cry of the soul”, which was conducted by psychologists E.A. Zhakupbekova and G.E. Nuriden. The event was aimed at raising students’ awareness of mental health problems and prevention of suicidal behaviour.
Suicide is one of the most serious problems of modern society, especially among young people. Stress, pressure, stressful situations and loneliness can lead to severe consequences. It is important that students know how to recognise warning signs in themselves and others and understand what steps to take in a difficult situation.
The workshop covered the following key points:
- Psychological factors contributing to suicidal thoughts – participants explored what emotional and mental states can precede suicide.
- How to recognise signs of crisis – students were introduced to the main signals that may indicate the need for help and learnt how to identify them in themselves and their loved ones.
- Methods of help – psychologists presented effective strategies that can help a person in crisis and discussed how to support their environment.
The students left with new knowledge that can be crucial in difficult moments.
The lecture-training «Suicide is a cry of the soul» was an important step in the programme of psychological support for students.
We are confident that open discussion of feelings and concerns, as well as training in helping skills, will help to create a safer and more caring learning environment at our university.
