On October 24, 2024, a seminar was held on the Zoom platform as part of the “Care and Recovery” club organized by the Department of Pediatrics and Rehabilitation named after Tussupov D.M. The seminar was presented by first and second-year residents of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) specialty: Temirkhanova Gulaiym, Satybaldinova Danara, and Nugybaeva Makpal. The topic of the seminar was “Rehabilitation after Th12 Spinal Cord Injury.” First-year residents from Pavlodar, Semey, and Ust-Kamenogorsk also participated in the seminar.
During the seminar, a clinical case was presented, demonstrating the rehabilitation process of a patient from the first day to the end of the treatment. The participants were able to observe the dynamics of changes occurring in the patient over the course of a week, a month, and six months of rehabilitation. This case became a clear example of how comprehensive rehabilitation positively affects the patient’s health and quality of life.
Some key points can be highlighted among the main outcomes of spinal injury rehabilitation: a crucial role is played by the combination, continuity, and periodicity of rehabilitation methods, as well as the use of special devices and equipment. It is essential to choose an appropriate therapeutic physical training technique, taking into account the patient’s condition, the severity of the injury, and the affected area.
Also, during the seminar, the article “Assessment of Balance and Rehabilitation Using Technologies in People with Spinal Cord Injuries” was reviewed, authored by Lorusso Matteoa, Tallyamonte Nevio Luigia, Tramontano Marcoa, Fresh AnnaD, Granelli Juliad, Smania Nicolad, and Tamburella Federica. This article, published in the journal Neurorehabilitation in 2022, further confirmed the significance of including balance restoration exercises for spinal injury patients, which can significantly accelerate the recovery process and improve the patient’s quality of life.
Participation in such a seminar, where a clinical case from our medical facility was described in detail, and familiarization with the works of international colleagues, provided a useful and educational experience for all attendees. This seminar offered the opportunity to learn about effective rehabilitation methods after spinal injuries and their practical application.
In conclusion, it can be stated that rehabilitation after spinal injury is a crucial stage of recovery, necessary for restoring functionality, reducing pain, and preventing further complications.
