On 11/20/2024, a seminar for medical workers on the topic “Influenza and SARS: diagnosis, treatment and prevention” was held at the Central Ambulance and Emergency Care Station of the Abai region. The moderators of this event were associate professors Smail E.M., Maukaeva S.B., assistant Isabekova J.B.
Interns of the GP 615 group of the Faculty of General Medicine reported on the epidemiological situation of the incidence of SARS and influenza in the world, the Republic of Kazakhstan and in the Abai region.
The participants of the round table were familiarized with Resolution No. 7 of August 16, 2024 “On carrying out sanitary and preventive, sanitary and anti-epidemic measures for influenza, acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI) and coronavirus infection (COVID-19) for the epidemic season 2024-2025.”
During the round table, the speakers noted that the reasons for the insufficient effectiveness of treatment of SARS and influenza are late access to a doctor, limited availability of express diagnostics, a wide range of etiological structure of pathogens, variability of SARS pathogens and the appearance of new mutations, an increase in the number of drug-resistant strains of influenza viruses, the presence of concomitant chronic diseases (comorbid background), lack of initial antiviral therapy, lack of patient compliance with prescribed medications, the use of medicines is not according to indications (for example, antibiotics).
The clinic, diagnosis of acute respiratory viral infections and influenza, and the features of the course of these infections in people from risk groups were analyzed in detail. The speakers once again emphasized that the most effective way to prevent SARS and influenza is vaccination and that WHO recommends annual vaccination for the following population groups: pregnant women at any stage of pregnancy, children aged 6 months to 5 years, the elderly (over 65 years old), people with chronic disorders health workers, health workers.
