Lecture-training on the topic ‘Why we are afraid to grow old’: A look at the fear of aging

On 20 November 2024 for the participants of the ‘Silver University’ was held a lecture-training, conducted by Associate Professor of the Department of GED Gizatullina A.G. The event was an important step towards understanding the complex and multifaceted topic of fear of aging, which worries many people in our society.

During the lecture, the docent spoke in detail about the psychological aspects of the fear of aging, emphasising that this phenomenon is peculiar not only to the elderly, but also to middle-aged people. The lecturer suggested to consider ageing as a natural process of life, rather than as something negative and frightening.

An important part of the lecture was practical exercises aimed at maintaining and developing cognitive skills. Participants performed various tasks that not only helped to strengthen memory, attention and thinking, but also allowed them to get rid of stereotypes about ageing as a time of mental decline.

This interaction had a positive impact on participants’ morale and self-esteem, strengthening their confidence that ageing does not mean a loss of the ability to learn and develop.
