“Vaping and energy drinks”

On March 13, an important educational meeting was held at the 37th school of Semey city, dedicated to the topic of concern to the younger and adult generation – “Vaping and energy drinks”. The event was organized by medical interns of the 7th course of 706 group under the guidance of the assistant of the Department of Pediatrics and Medical Rehabilitation named after Tusupova D.M. Bektar Zhansulu Sergeldykyzy.
The purpose of the meeting was to raise awareness of schoolchildren about the harm of vaping and consumption of energy drinks, as well as dissemination of information about the health consequences of these habits. The importance of such an event can hardly be overestimated, as recently the problem of vaping and energy drinks abuse has become topical among young people.
In the first part of the meeting the participants were told about what vaping is and debunked popular myths. They were shown how vapes affect the body, explaining that although they are often perceived as a less dangerous alternative to smoking, they can actually cause a lot of harm. Doctors talked about the effects on the lungs, cardiovascular system and general health, as well as how vaping can contribute to addictions.
Special attention was paid to the fact that many vapes contain not only nicotine, but also other toxic substances such as formaldehyde, acrolein, which can lead to chronic diseases. Specific clinical examples were given of youth seeking medical attention for problems related to vaping.
The second part of the event focused on energy drinks. It was explained to the students that these drinks contain huge amounts of caffeine and other stimulants that can negatively affect health. A doctor-intern explained how excessive consumption of energy drinks can lead to heart rhythm disorders, high blood pressure, insomnia and psycho-emotional disorders. They also discussed the issue of addiction to energy drinks, which at first glance may not be as obvious as addiction to narcotic substances, but is no less dangerous.
At the end of the event, an informative game was played and feedback was received from those present.
