The department was established in September 1957. Its first head was professor Spivak Rivekka Yakovlevna (1957-1960), a graduate of the Kharkov Medical Institute.
1960-1962 years. The department was supervised by associate professor Serebryanaya Sofia Pavlovna, also a graduate of the Kharkov Medical Institute.
During the next 10 years (1962-71) the head of the department was professor Lashchevker Matvey Veniaminovich – a graduate of the Odessa Medical Institute.
1971-1976 years. The department was headed by professor Savina Polina Nikolaevna, who graduated from the Tomsk Medical Institute.
In 1976-83 years the department was headed by professor Benenson Efim Vladimirovich, a graduate of the Sverdlovsk Medical Institute. During this period, the staff of the department began scientific research on the problem of clinical immunology and rheumatology. Under the guidance of professor Benenson E.V. 1 doctoral and 4 candidate dissertations were completed.
More than 20 years, from 1983 to 2003 years the head of the department was professor Ivanova Raifa Latifovna – graduate of the first issue of the Semipalatinsk Medical Institute. Under her leadership, 4 doctoral and 26 candidate dissertations were defended. She continues active creative work. She is an Honored Professor of the Semey State University.
From 2003 to 2018 the head of the department was Professor Zhumadilova Zauresh Kenzhekanovna – a graduate of the Semipalatinsk Medical Institute. Under her leadership 1 doctoral, 3 candidate and 3 master’s theses were defended. Since 2018, is a professor in the department of faculty therapy.
The great contribution to the training of doctors was made by associate professors Pishchagina L.A., Romanova E.V., Ovsyannikova R.S., Ualiyeva T.M., Ospanova Sh.N., Nemtsov B.F., Maltsev V.G., Vainsvayg P.M., Alibekova R.I., Kurumbaev R.R., Pivina L.M., assistants Geilikman E.M., Drabkina E.M., Vinogradov N.I., Kornienkova A.A., Vise-Khripunova M.A., Omarbekova Zh.E., Urazalina Zh.M., Batenova G.B.
Since 2018, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Kaskabaeva Alida Sharipovna has headed the department of faculty therapy.
Currently, the department of faculty therapy continues to be one of the leading departments of Semey Medical University. The department has introduced many innovative educational technologies (CBL, OSCE, standardized patients, clinical simulations, integrated classes, a mini-clinical exam, an integrated clinical symposium, etc.), which increased the effectiveness of students learning the basics of internal diseases.
According to the results of the faculty rating on educational and methodical work and scientific activities, the staff of the department and the department of faculty therapy, in general, annually takes prizes in the nominations “Best Clinical Department”, “Best Teacher”.
The main directions of scientific work of the department are issues of clinical cardiology, rheumatology, nephrology and gastroenterology.
All members of the department have the highest qualification category of specialists in various areas of internal diseases and provide medical advice at the University Hospital and medical institutions of the city and region.
The department trains undergraduate, internship and residency students in all areas of internal medicine.
