History of the department: The department was organized in 1977 as the Department of Propaedeutics of Children’s Diseases, later renamed the Department of Children’s Diseases. Since 2018, the original name of the department is “Propaedeutics of childhood diseases”. At different times, the department was headed by Ph.D., associate professor N.S. Galyautdinova (1977-1979), Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor G.A. Tuleutaeva (1979-1985 and 1988-1993), candidate of medical sciences, associate professor S.A. Altynbekova (1986-1987), Doctor of Medical Sciences, professor E.T. Dadambaev (1987-1988), candidate of medical sciences, associate professor F.M. Ashimova (1993-2001). Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Zh.K. Zhagiparova (2001-2018). Since 2018, the department has been headed by Ph.D. Associate Professor Toktabaeva B.Zh. In past years, Professor Tuleutaeva G.A., Associate Professor Ashimova F.M., Associate Professor Zhumabaeva Z.A., Associate Professor Zhagiparova Zh.K., assistants: Candidate of Medical Sciences Zhunusova A.B., PhD Kozykenova Zh. The department trains undergraduate students of 3-4 courses in the specialty “General Medicine”, 2 courses in the specialty “Pediatrics”, 1 year in the specialty “Nursing” accelerated education and 3 courses in the specialty “Dentistry”. The bases of the department are the University Hospital, UCHMK “Venus”, where medical and advisory activities of the teaching staff, scientific implementations, seminars, conferences, thematic analyzes of patients are carried out. On average, 20-25 scientific papers are published annually, including in English, including articles abroad in journals with an impact factor. Also traditional is the practice of joint publications with doctors of practical health care and with students. It should be noted the productive activity of the student scientific circle – for many years in a row, scientific student reports of the department have won prizes. The department has patents, pre-patents for inventions, rationalization proposals. In 2014-2016 the scientific and technical program “Ecology and the state of health of children living on the territory of the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site” was implemented. Members of the department participate in diverse Improvement Projects – “Organization of assistance to children with limited physical and mental abilities in Semey”, 2015, “Stars 15”, 2016, “Childhood without anemia and hypoxia”, 2017. Volunteering is successfully carried out. Patronage was taken with the provision of material assistance to orphans and sick children from low-income families. The staff of the department regularly receives encouragement from the leadership of the university, has letters of thanks from graduates and republican awards. Over the past seven years, 4 employees have been awarded the “Excellent Worker of Health” badge, 7 employees have received diplomas from the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan and one – the medal “Veteran of Labour”. 40% of employees improved their skills in non-CIS countries (USA, Germany, Japan). Among the teaching staff, the level of knowledge of the English language is constantly increasing, the number of employees teaching in English is increasing. Assistant Kabdollin Zh.U. in 2023, a competition for foreign internships was held as part of the Bolashak program for 500 scientists.
Goal: Training of qualified bachelor specialists, formation of professional competencies among students, satisfaction of society’s needs for specialists with higher medical education. Development of the research potential of teaching staff.

- Implementation of educational programs in undergraduate specialties. Improvement of educational and methodological activities.
- Strengthening the research potential of teaching staff, NIRS.
- Educational work with students aimed at the comprehensive development of personal qualities; involvement of students in volunteer activities.
- Carrying out advanced training courses for doctors and paramedical workers.
- Implementation of innovative technologies in all areas of activity.
