The Radiology Department was founded in 1954. The first head of the department was I.I. Pilger (1954-1977). Further, the department was headed by professor M.T. Aliyakparov (1977-1984), associate professor N.F. Andriyaschenko (1984-1988), professor O.M. Kim (1988-1993), associate professor A.A. Schneider (1994-1997). From 1997 to 2013, the position of responsible for the discipline of visual diagnostics was held by Associate Professor Akhmetbaeva Asem Kazakhstanovna.
From 2014 to 2017, the head teacher of the discipline of visual diagnostics was Madiyeva Madina Rashidovna, Doctor of Medical Sciences.
In 2018, the Department of Radiation Diagnostics and Nuclear Medicine was organized. Since 2021, the department has been renamed the Department of Radiology. The head of the department of Radiology is Doctor of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Madiyeva Madina Rashidovna.
The department has bases at the University Hospital of the Semey Medical University, at the Center for Nuclear Medicine and Oncology, at the Hakim and Nova Diagnostic clinics, which are equipped with modern X-ray machines, ultrasound, computed tomography, MRI, PET/CT, dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry and ultrasonic densitometer.
Academic and educational work in the department:
The department implements undergraduate and postgraduate education programs. To achieve the university’s mission, new educational technologies have been introduced into the educational process of the department: team-oriented learning (TBL), case-based learning (CBL), an integrated clinical symposium. 4th year students of the Faculty of Dentistry, 3rd year students of the Faculties of General Medicine and Pediatrics study the discipline “Fundamentals of radiation diagnostics”. The department also trains resident radiologists and residents of related specialties in the field of endocrinology, gastroenterology, urology, obstetrics and gynecology, pulmonology, neurology, emergency medicine, oncology and nuclear medicine. Every year, the department graduate radiologists for the Abay region, East Kazakhstan and Pavlodar regions. Graduates of the residency successfully work in medical institutions in Kazakhstan.
The staff of the department conducts professional development cycles, seminars for radiologists and other specialties.
Scientific activity:
The scientific activity of the department is in constant development. The staff of the department constantly strive to improve their professional qualifications by participating in scientific conferences and master classes. The department has a student scientific club “Stars of Radiology”, whose members are bachelor students.
The topics of scientific projects that the staff of the department are working on are: ” Clinical and epidemiological risk evaluation of osteoporosis prevalence at different ages with to assess bone quantification using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry”, “Radiation diagnosis of degenerative diseases – dystrophic diseases of the spine”. “The role of DWI-MRI in the diagnosis of brain tumors”.
Medical activity:
The staff of the department conducts the reception of patients in the departments of radiation diagnostics / radiology at the clinical bases of Semey.
Educational work:
The staff of the department are the curators of the 3rd and 4th year students of the Faculty of General Medicine.
