Analysis of feedback from clinical mentors of residents of the Educational Programe «Adult and Pediatric Rheumatology»

The survey for clinical mentors of residents of the specialty “Adult and Pediatric Rheumatology” was conducted. The aim of the survey is to monitor and control the training of residents at clinical sites. Participants were from hospitals and clinics of Pavlodar, Ust-Kamenogorsk and Semey cities.

Each resident is assigned a clinical mentor from among experienced physicians.

At present, five students of first year-program study in residency of this specialty, two of them are from Pavlodar, the other one is from Ust-Kamenogorsk and two students are from Semey; There are also two students of residency of the second year program from Ust-Kamenogorsk and Semey.

According to one of the mentors, there is a clearly noticeable difference in the level of practical training among residents who study outside of the department, where specialists with a certificate of a rheumatologist teach. In addition, teachers with a scientific degree work at the Department of Internal Diseases and Rheumatology, providing a high level of theoretical training. So, for example, a second-year resident Akzhan Beisengazinova, studying in Semey, has all skills and medical manipulations, shows a personal desire for self-improvement, the acquisition of professional knowledge, practical skills and abilities; she actively participates in clinical reviews, consultations, master classes, in republican scientific and practical conferences with international participation. So, for example, on December 3, 2022, resident Ms.Beisengazinova received 1st place for the Poster Report at the IX Winter School of Rheumatologists of Kazakhstan, which was held in Almaty. Residents of the 1st and 2nd years, studying on the basis of the department, participate in the meetings of the School of Rheumoorthopedics, meetings with students ofthe Silver University Project of  «SMU» NCJSC. In addition, they are sometimes involved in teaching the discipline “Rheumatology” to fourth-year students in the “Musculoskeletal system” module.

It is worth noting that some residents entered the residency after several years of practical work, moreover, in a different specialty.

Thus, one of the main wishes of clinical mentors is that all students of residency, regardless of place of residence, should first pass the first year of study on the basis of the department.

Despite all the modern achievements in medicine and technology, one of the important parts of the integrated process of teaching residents at a medical university remains personal communication with the direct transfer of experience and knowledge from teacher to student.[/vc_column_text]
