A lecture on measles prevention

On January 29, 2024, under the guidance of PhD, Associate Professor of the Department of Infectious Diseases, Dermatovenerology and Immunology of the «SMU» NCJSC, Maukaeva S.B., a lecture (on the ZOOM platform) in English on the prevention of measles, viral hepatitis A for students of the foreign department of the «SMU» NCJSC,was organized on the topic: “Measles”, “Viral hepatitis”.

The lecture materials presented data on the ways of infection, clinical symptoms, methods of diagnosis and treatment of measles. Measles is a highly contagious serious airborne disease caused by a virus that can lead to severe complications and death.

The highest level of measles spread was observed in Kazakhstan. In 2023, 13,677 cases were reported. Between 2000 and 2021, measles vaccination prevented 56 million deaths. Although a safe and cost-effective vaccine is available, there are about 128,000 measles deaths worldwide in 2021, mostly among unvaccinated or under-vaccinated children under the age of 5.

Measles prevention is a vaccine against measles, mumps, rubella (CPC). According to the national vaccination calendar of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the CCP vaccine is administered to children aged 12-15 months and 6 years.
