Communication with the patient’s family. Communication with patients of different age groups

The communication between medical staff and the patient’s relatives should be based on the understanding that people who have encountered problems with the health of a loved one feel the need for participation, sympathy, and confirmation of the professionalism of medical workers. If we are talking about serious diagnoses, then regular communication should take place not only on the initiative of relatives, but also on the initiative of the doctor. This will allow you to direct the energy of loved ones in the right direction and avoid actions that can cause harm (refusal to take medications, turning to healers).

An important aspect of the work of a general practitioner is the ability to establish good contact with patients of different age groups. Establishing psychological contact with a child patient is often no less important than medical procedures. Children are characterized by such psychological features as lack of awareness of the disease as a whole, inability to formulate complaints, strong emotional reactions to individual symptoms of the disease, perception of medical and diagnostic procedures as frightening events, an increase in character defects and upbringing of the child during the period of illness. Establishing psychological contact with elderly and senile patients is a rather complex and responsible matter, requiring special skills, great attention and patience.
