The history of the department:
The Department of Infectious Diseases with a course in Epidemiology was established in 1957.
The heads of the department were:
- PhD, Associate Professor A. A. Aubakirov (1957-1960);
- MD, Associate Professor L. M. Baranovsky (1960-1972);
- MD, Professor E. S. Belozerov (1972-1982, 1985-1986);
- PhD, Associate Professor B. T. Khryapov (1987-1988);
- MD, Professor L. A. Mukovozova (1982-19851989-2002);
- MD, Professor N. K. Shaimardanov (2002-2010, 2022 – present).
Since 2010, the discipline “Infectious Diseases” has been part of the departments of Disaster Medicine, Neurology, psychiatry and infectious diseases, since 2017 it has been combined with dermatovenerology; from 2018 to 2022 it was combined with immunology, headed by PhD, Associate Professor S. B. Maukaeva.
Under the guidance of Professor E. S. Belozerov, 88 candidate’s and 23 doctoral dissertations were defended, 29 monographs and 4 textbooks were written, he is an honored Scientist of the Kazakh SSR, worked as rector of the SSMI (1986) and rector of the Almaty Medical Institute (1986-1995).
Professor L. A. Mukovozova worked as the vice-rector for scientific work of the SSMI (1995-1996). Under her leadership, 10 PhD and 2 doctoral dissertations were defended, 1 PhD student, 1 monograph and a handbook on infectious diseases were published.
Associate Professor B. T. Khryapov, who later worked as the chief physician in Moscow, did a lot for the epidemiology course.
Professor N. K. Shaimardanov prepared 13 candidates of medical sciences and 1 Doctor of medical sciences, published 4 monographs, created at the university and headed the center for problems of formation of healthy lifestyle for 10 years.

The Department of Dermatovenerology was established in 1957. The founder of the department was associate professor Abdusametov R. H. (1957-1976), who was also the vice-rector for Science of the SSMI for a number of years.
Subsequently, the department was headed by Professor A. P. Bazyka (1975- 1982), a world–renowned scientist, an excellent lecturer and clinician, he wrote a large number of scientific papers, including two monographs.
From 1982 to 2002, the department was headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor L. N. Savitskaya, author of more than 300 scientific papers, 20 inventions and rational proposals, prepared 7 candidates of medical sciences.
From 2002 to 2016, he was the head of the department, MD, Professor Nurmukhambetov Zh. N. Under his leadership, 3 PhD theses were defended, the author of more than 200 scientific papers, including 4 inventions and 2 monographs.
From 2017 to 2022, the department was headed by PhD, Associate professor Akhmetova A. K.
In different years, PhD, Associate Professor Zhunusova A. K., PhD, Associate Professor Belyaeva T. M. worked at the department, assistants: Rusanova V. V., Khryapova T. V., PhD Khramykh-Overchenko N. M., PhD Sundeeva E. A.; Master Ibraeva T. B.
Currently, dermatovenerology is taught by MD, Associate professor Sultanova N. K. and PhD, Associate Professor Akhmetova A. K., assistants Kusainova A. A. and Jokebaeva M. S.
The staff of the department has prepared many methodological manuals for students, including “Fungal skin diseases”, “Photodermatoses”, a number of textbooks in Kazakh: “Mikozdar”, “Pyodermialar”, “Dermatitis”, “Eczema”, “Neurodermatozdar”, “Pemphigus”, monographs “Allergic skin diseases” and “Emotional stress and correction of adaptive disorders”, published in recent years.
The first Department of Clinical Immunology and Allergology in the Soviet Union was established in 1986 on the initiative of the rector of the SSMI, Professor E. S. Belozerov.
The first head of the department was associate professor K. B. Sadykov (1986), then the department and the course were headed by Associate professor F. F. Yagofarov (1987-2009), from 2010 to 2018 she was headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences H. S. Zhetpisbayeva.
Currently, immunology is taught by Associate Professor, Ph.D. Yagofarov F. F., Acting Associate Professor, Ph.D. Kudaibergenova N. K., assistants: Ph.D. Kozubaeva D. B., Master Abdrakhmanova G. Zh., Turakhanova B. S.
The scientific direction of the department is the study of secondary immunodeficiency, immune adaptation mechanisms, allergic skin diseases (eczema and atopic dermatitis).
Objective: to train doctors, scientists and leaders in the field of healthcare to provide high-quality medical care; to achieve the trinity of education, science and clinical practice.
Tasks and functions:

- Creating the necessary conditions for the educational process;
- Obtaining and improving clinical competencies.
