The Department of “Public Health” was organized in 1956 with the original name “Social Medicine and Health Management with a Course in the History of Medicine” at the Semipalatinsk State Medical Institute. The first head of the department was Candidate of Medical Sciences Isakhanov M.P., he laid the foundations of the pedagogical, methodological and organizational work of the department.
Over the years, the department was headed by experienced organizers such as:
- Kislitsina Natalya Petrovna (from 1968 to 1972);
- Candidate of Medical Sciences Ponomareva Svetlana Stanislavovna (from 1972 to 1981);
- Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Baibatyrova Zoya Seitkazovna (from 1981 to 1991);
- Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Kamaliev Maksut Adilkhanovich (from 1991 to 1993);
- Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Bazarbek Zhenisbek Bazarbekovich (from 1993 to 2013);
- Candidate of Medical Sciences Khismetova Zaytuna Abdulkasimovna (2013-2015);
- Dr. PhD Mysaev Ayan Oralkhanovich (2015-2018);
- Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Khismetova Zaytuna Abdulkasimovna (from 2018 to the present).
Under their leadership, the improvement of the educational, methodological, scientific, educational work of the department continued. Relations with practical health authorities and foreign partners from near and far abroad were strengthened. Bachelor’s and master’s degrees in public health, health management, preventive health care, and PhDs in public health were trained.
Currently, the faculty of the department is actively working on scientific projects of the university, and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan. For many years, the student scientific circle has been fruitfully working at the department, intra-university projects are actively working, such as the “School of Public Health”, “Managerial Olympiad”. In 2018, the “Winter School of Health Protection” opened its doors, which is a success with the leaders of student youth. The department actively participates in various international programs Erasmus Plus Tutorial, Harmonee. Has friendly relations with Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University, Graduate School of Asia Pacific Studies, Public Health Department (Japan); Department of Management and Laboratory of Analytical Work in Economics and Management, Uda State University (Italy), with Ryazan State Medical University named after Academician I.P. Pavlova (Russia). International Higher School of Medicine of the International University of Kyrgyzstan.
The teaching staff of the department took and participated in a joint study with WHO on the project “Research on behavioral aspects associated with COVID-19 in the Republic of Kazakhstan” in 2020, in the NTP International “An unprecedented multi-center experimental study of the effect of ionizing radiation on a living organism using a nuclear reactor” and Republican “NP for the introduction of personalized and preventive medicine in the Republic of Kazakhstan (2020-2022)”.
The department regularly provides practical and methodological assistance to health authorities and organizations.
Purpose: Training of competent, professional and competitive specialists, organizers and managers of healthcare.
Tasks and functions:
- qualitative improvement of the organization of research and educational work of the department;
- development of work programs in disciplines that reflect the latest achievements of science and prospects for their development;
- ensuring continuous improvement of the quality of teaching;
- pays special attention to the professional development of the teaching staff;
- ensuring the quality of education, taking into account the strategic goals, objectives and mission of the University as a whole.
