Seminar on the topic: “Bronchiolitis and pneumonia in young children: diagnostic criteria.”

On May 10, 2024, a seminar was held for pediatricians at Semey City Hospital No. 1 on the topic: “Bronchiolitis and pneumonia in young children: diagnostic criteria.” The report was made by the assistant of the department of propaedeutics of childhood diseases Koishybaeva K.Zh.

About 3.4 million children under the age of 5 years suffer from an RS viral infection of the lower respiratory tract, requiring hospital treatment, of which 66 thousand children die, with 99% in developing countries. Bronchiolitis is most common in children under the age of 9 months in 90% of cases. Every year, 150 million cases of bronchiolitis are reported worldwide, 7-13% of which require hospital treatment and 1-3% require hospitalization in an intensive care unit. Over the past decade, there has been an increase in the frequency of hospitalizations due to RS viral infection. Firstly, this is due to advances in the field of caring for very premature infants and children with severe concomitant diseases and, accordingly, the number of such children has increased. Another obvious reason is that methods for the etiological diagnosis of viral infections have improved.

The lecturer covered issues of epidemiology, etiology and pathogenesis, features of the clinical course, diagnostic criteria, treatment tactics for acute bronchiolitis and pneumonia in young children and indication criteria for transfer to the intensive care unit.

At the end of the seminar, the lecturer answered questions from the audience and received positive comments and feedback.
